National Medical Group Returns From Honduras and the Dominican Republic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Envision Healthcare, a leading national medical group, announced today that in connection with the Envision Charitable Fund, it will continue to care for patients in communities throughout Honduras and the Dominican Republic. The regular volunteer medical trips are part of Envision’s Global Health Initiative to improve patients’ access to essential medical care and support the health of communities across the world.

In September, six anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists volunteered to travel to Honduras, providing 28 surgeries and 35 consults to patients. In November, 13 Envision teammates traveled to the Dominican Republic, providing 501 primary care consults to patients. In addition to providing care, the emergency medicine clinicians and clinical support teammates helped identify long-term care plans for patients who require ongoing care from local physicians.

“Caring for patients is my number one priority at all times, and this trip reminded me of why I went into medicine — to care for people and improve their health,” said Mansoor Khan, MD, MHA, Senior Vice President and emergency physician at Envision Healthcare. “We continue to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and care for our communities at home. However, when we have the opportunity, it’s an honor to be able to help communities abroad.”

“During our recent trip to the Dominican Republic, it was humbling to work alongside Envision teammates to care for patients,” said Jim Rechtin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Envision Healthcare. “At Envision, we are committed to addressing pressing healthcare challenges, such as health equity and access to care, whether in the U.S. or other parts of the world. As global citizens, everyone has a responsibility to care for one another, and I’m proud of our team for playing a role in helping heal patients and improve their lives.”

The trips in 2021 were conducted in collaboration with One World Surgery – a nonprofit that organizes surgical and primary care volunteer trips. Envision is committed to delivering care when and where it is needed most. The Honduras and Dominican Republic visits are the first of many in the medical group’s Global Health Initiative. Envision will continue to identify opportunities for its clinical and clinical support teammates to provide care to communities abroad.
