On Monday, Jan. 16, Envision Healthcare will observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day as an official holiday. This annual observance is a time to celebrate and honor the life and legacy of Dr. King.

Dr. King believed in equality and dedicated his life to fighting all forms of injustice. As a national medical group, we are committed to providing high-quality care to the patients and communities we serve. Delivering care across the nation, as our physicians and advanced practice providers do, means our organization must reflect the diversity of our country.

One of the ways we’ve seen inclusion efforts come to life at Envision is through the launch of Employee Resource Groups. These groups represent the opportunity to experience Dr. King’s legacy of inclusion by creating communities that are open to all Envision teammates and reinforce our shared commitment to provide care when and where it’s needed most.

Like many workplaces around the country, our clinical support offices will be closed on Monday to give teammates the opportunity to volunteer in service of their local communities. For information on the MLK Day of Service and to search for opportunities in your area, visit the AmeriCorps website.

Everyone at Envision is accountable for living the values of the organization, which define what we care about most and shape the ways in which we interact with one another. Contributing to an inclusive environment and recognizing the value of a diverse workforce are essential elements of our culture and are key components to becoming America’s leading medical group.

However you spend Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I encourage you to reflect upon his mission of fairness and justice for all and consider the ways, both big and small, you can make a difference.
