NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Envision Healthcare, a leading national medical group, commends the House Committee on Energy and Commerce’s work on the current COVID-19 relief legislation. Envision cares for more than 32 million patients a year in communities throughout the country and has taken comprehensive action to care for patients and support its clinicians while responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The committee’s recommendations include several crucial provisions that will fund the infrastructure needed to improve access to vaccines while strengthening our healthcare system in the long-term, bringing much-needed relief and reassurance to patients and providers.

Envision applauds the inclusion of the following provisions:

  • Funding for vaccine manufacturing and distribution – accelerating the rate of immunization and enhancing protections for frontline healthcare workers, patients and their families
  • Prioritizing COVID-19 testing and contact tracing – helping to mitigate the spread of the disease
  • Investing in programs to address mental and behavioral health – an emerging and under-recognized need among clinicians and the general public alike
  • Strengthening Medicaid and creating incentives to expand the program within states that have not done so – improving access to healthcare for those who need it most

“Envision’s 25,000 clinicians are on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, providing care for 1 in every 10 patients hospitalized by the disease,” said Meg Lafave, Envision Healthcare’s Senior Vice President of People and Government Affairs. “We recognize and appreciate the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s actions in passing critical COVID-19 relief legislation and support enactment of these crucial provisions.”

Envision continues to urge all communities to continue working together to mitigate the spread of the virus by following effective public health measures. These include hand washing, maintaining six feet of distance from others, wearing a mask, avoiding large gatherings and staying home when feeling sick.
